Richard Hendrix, a junior power forward from Alabama, has informed Crimson Tide head coach Mark Gottfried and the basketball staff that he will remain as a candidate in the 2008 NBA Draft. The deadline for players to withdraw or remain in the draft is today (Monday) at 4 p.m. CT.

Richard Hendrix, a native of Athens, led Alabama in scoring and rebounding in 2008 with 17.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. He was a .598% field goal shooter this past season.

“Richard called me and informed me he is going to stay in the draft,” said Crimson Tide head coach Mark Gottfried. “We had a great conversation. I told him I loved him and supported him. Richard has always represented the University of Alabama with a great deal of class which shows because he’s a three-year graduate. I will be pulling hard and cheering for him as he moves on with his future.”

Hendrix made 13 of 21 shots from the field in Orlando as he finished with 31 points and 20 rebounds in three games. He has already graduated and is a likely second round pick.
