A total of 26 players from Big 12 schools is represented on 19 different NBA opening day rosters. Kansas has the most representative for the sixth straight year with six former Jayhawks in the NBA. Iowa State is next with four, while Nebraska and Missouri have three each. There are ten of the twelve league schools who have former players on opening day rosters. Texas A&M and Kansas State are the lone Big 12 teams that does not have a former player in the NBA.

Former standouts Danny Manning of Kansas, Mitch Richmond of Kansas State and Mookie Blaylock from Oklahoma are not currently in the league. The three players had played a combined 40 years in the pros. Former Oklahoma State player Bryant Reeves and John Starks are also on the sidelines, leaving Desmond Mason as the lone Cowboy in the NBA.

Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Indiana, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis, and Sacramento have two players from Big 12 schools.
