Los Angeles (CA) Fairfax jumped out to a 19-12 first quarter lead and never trailed after that in a 65-56 win over Melbourne (FL) Florida Air Academy at the Academy National Invitational.

UCLA recruit Josh Shipp was aggressive with his varied offensive game as he scored 22 points on six of 16 shooting. His aggressiveness paid off as he made his way often to the free throw line and sank nine shots from the charity stripe. Junior 6-8 forward Jamal Boykin was a workhorse as he finished with 22 points and 18 rebounds, nine in each half. 6-0 junior guard Walter Hodge led Florida Air Academy with 23 points as he made eight of 21 shots from the field and three of nine from three-point range. Kansas signee Alexander "Sasha" Kaun started the game slowly as he has been hobbled by an early season ankle injury. He was scoreless in the first half and had just three rebounds at the break. However, he finished with 14 points and nine caroms as he made four of eight shots from the field and blocked three shots. 5-11 senior guard Carlos Chevres added eleven for the Falcons, who fell to 5-3 after going 29-0 last season. Fairfax improved to 8-1 with the win. Their lone loss was to #1 Oak Hill Academy.
