6-7 redshirt sophomore forward Chris Dunn has decided to transfer from Arizona to Cochise (AZ) CC. The move was reportedly academic related. He would be able to resign wuth the Wildcats after receiving his two-year degree. The loss of Dunn leaves Arizona with just eight scholarship players.
6-7 forward Chris Dunn from Hobbs (NM) High signed a National Letter-of-Intent with Arizona in the spring of 2002 to become the fourth player to sign with the Wildcats for the 2002 recruiting class. Dunn averaged 17.0 points, 12.3 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 2.0 assists per game for Coach Russ Gilmore at Hobbs High School. He shot 59.8 percent from the field, including 52.1 percent from three-point range. Hobbs was twice named all-state during his career.
Dunn was a three-year letterwinner for the Eagles and helped lead the team to state championships in 2000, 2001 and 2002. He finished his career with 709 rebounds, which ranked fifth in Hobbs' history. The Eagles posted a 101-9 (.918) overall record in his four prep seasons.
The Wildcats' depth is a question mark with just eighjt scholarship players. Top recruit Ndudi Ebi decided to turn pro and Will Bynum transferred to Georgia Tech and Dennis Latimore moved on to Notre Dame in the last year.
The Wildcats finished the 2002-03 campaign with an overall record of 28-4 and won the Pac-10 conference race with a 17-1 mark. They advanced to the NCAA Tournament's West Regional Finals, losing ot eventual runner-up Kansas. They won the It was Arizona's 19th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the longest active streak in the nation, and the program's 16th straight 20-win season.
Arizona lost three starters when Jason Gardner, Luke Walton and Rick Anderson graduated.
