6-3 guard Danny Morrissey has committed to Penn State, giving head coach Ed DeChellis his first verbal for the 2004-05 season. Morrisey is an Ohio native who plays for Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy. He was expected to play for the Cleveland Basketball Club at the adidas Big Time in Las Vegas and Best of Summer Tournament in Los Angeles, but stayed home after suffering a broken nose at a recent Five-Star basketball camp.
Danny Morrissey told The Bootleg.com that Penn State was coming to watch him shoot and drill on July 30th. Florida State and Stanford also watched him during the last week of the evaluation period.
Morrissey played well at the Nike All-American Camp and was off to a strong showing at the Five-Star Camp before the injury. He received offers from Richmond, St. Bonaventure and Valparaiso after the camps, even without the schools having made any prior contact. Florida State, Arkansas, Clemson, Penn State and Dayton had also offered and Stanford and Ohio State showed interest. 0
Morrissey had already taken an official visit to Dayton in February. He averaged 24 points, five rebounds and six assists per game last season.
