7-0 center Seth Gorney of Vandalia (OH) Butler has committed to Iowa over Big Ten rival Ohio State. Gorney was named third team Division I all-area boys team by the Dayton Daily News and averaged 13 points and 9.1 rebounds per game this past season as a junior.

Seth Gorney was a first team Greater Western Ohio Conference selection. He played alongside Western Kentucky signee 7-0 Josh Higgins, who was a first team Division I all-area boys and Greater Western Ohio Conference selection. The presence of Higgins allowed Gorney to play on the perimeter and demonstrate his shooting range. Butler has an enrollment of just 483, which makes the presence of two seven footers pretty amazing.

Head coach Ray Zawadzki said that for 32 of his 35 years in coaching he had 6-1 pivot men, but was blessed to have two seven-footers growing up on the same block. The Aviators were ranked fourth in the state before being upset by Huber Heights Wayne 36-35 in the Division I (smallest class) Dayton District semifinals. They finished 21-2, but Gorney will be the lone returning player next year.

Gorney is a good offensive player who needs to add bulk to his 225 pound frame. He is the third verbal for Iowa, who previously got commitments from 6-6 J.R. Angle of Trefalgar (IN) Indian Creek and 6-8 Alex Thompson from Ames (IA) High. Gorney had visited Ohio State on May 16th.

Gorney is the 14th player to commit to a Big Ten school and no program besides Iowa has more than two verbal commitments.
