The College Basketball News’ top ten saw Akron (OH) St. Vincent- St. Mary remain #1, despite losing star LeBron James. Los Angeles (CA) Fairfax and Elizabeth (NJ) St. Patrick's fell out of the top ten as the Lions lost in their rematch to Los Angeles (CA) Westchester and the Celtics fell to Blairstown (NJ) Blair Academy. Minneapolis (MN) North and Lanier (MS) High moved back into the top ten as they are a combined 42-2.

1. Akron (OH) St. Vincent-St. Mary (14-1*)

The Irish won their first game without 6-7 star LeBron James as he was suspended by the OHSAA for receiving jerseys from a local store as they defeated Canton McKinley 63-62. Akron recruits Romeo Travis and Dru Joyce III scored 21 points each and Travis added eight rebounds. Junior guard Corey Jones added 12 points.

 

The Irish face Los Angeles (CA) Westchester Saturday at the Prime Time Shootout.

 

2. Indianapolis (IN) Pike (16-0)

The Red Devils defeated Indianapolis (IN) Ben Davis (7-6) 77-53 and Southport 75-28

Junior Courtney Lee scored 20 points and junior forward Robert Vaden had 17 points in the win over Ben Davis. Darren Yates added 15.

 

Devin Thomas led Pike with 17 points in the win over Southport. Justin Cage finished with 13 points and Vaden had 10. Pike is averaging 70.6 points per game and allowing just 45.3 points per contest. Devils' top six players return from last season's 24-4 team that reached the state championship game before losing to Gary West 58-55. They play at Columbus North Friday. 

 

3. Columbus (OH) Brookhaven (15-1)

The Bearcats defeated Mifflin 89-78 and Northland 73-48. 6-6 small forward Brandon Foust, who signed with Oklahoma, scored 20 in the win over Mifflin. Teammate Andrew Lavender, who also signed with the Sooners, added 19 points and 6-6 sophomore forward Jamelle Cornley scored 18. 6-5 Everett Spencer had eleven.

 

Spencer lead the team with 15 points in Northland victory. Lavender added 14 in the win.

The Bearcats will face Beechcroft Tuesday and Linden McKinley Thursday on Senior night. They face New York (NY) Rice in the Prime time Shootout Saturday.

4. Beamount (TX) Ozen (25-0)

Andre Boutte Jr. scored 20 points as the Ozen Panthers defeated Lumberton 65-52 Memphis recruit Kendrick Perkins had 16 points and 6-foot-7 Keena Young scored 15 points.

 

5. Mater Dei, Santa Ana, Calif. (22-2)

The Monarchs rolled to a 120-62 nonleague victory over Antelope Valley on Saturday at Azusa Pacific University. Senior guard Trevante Nelson scored a game-high 22 points, including five three-pointers. Sophomore point guard added 13 points and dished out nine assists. Minnesota-bound Wesley Washington scored 16 points and Harrison Schaen added 10 points, pulled down eight rebounds and had four blocks. Wesley Washington scored 22 points last Wednesday as the Monarchs rolled to an 85-51 win.

 

The Monarchs play Servite Wednesday and Santa Margarita Friday.

 

6. Rochester (NY) McQuaid Jesuit (18-0)

McQuaid Jesuit defeated Marshall 79-73 as 6-6 Marty O’Sullivan had 28 points for the Knights. Ryan Pettinella scored 22 and West Virginia signee Tyler Relph had 21 points. They will play in this weekend’s Prime Time Shootout against Harrisburg (PA) High.

 

7. Rockville (MD) Montrose Christian (11-1)

The Mustangs extended their winning streak to eleven straight. They defeated Einstein 99-39 and Benedictine (16-3) 52-51 at the Super Slam Fest (VA) in Ashburn, Virginia. Senior forward Linas Kleiza was held to just twelve points in the win over Benedictine as he was hampered with foul problems. Point guard Rich Baker stole the inbounds pass and passed it to senior guard Fred Robinson for the game-winner.

 

Kleiza is leading the team in scoring, averaging 19.6 points per game. The Mustangs are averaging 70.5 points per game. They face Riverdale Baptist Tuesday. Their lone loss was to #9 Fairfax in the Iolani Classic.
