11. Springfield (MO) Kickapoo (12-0)
The Chiefs defeated Columbia (MO) Hickman 78-56 They scored the first six points and led by three after one period, pushed the margin to 11 early in the second, and held that difference at 43-32 on Spencer Laurie’s three-pointer at the halftime buzzer. Kickapoo started the second half with a 12-1 run to make it 55-33 and Hickman got no closer than 19 after that. Creighton recruit Anthony Tolliver led that balanced Kickapoo attack with 23 points, on nine of eleven shooting. Missouri recruit Spencer Laurie (17), Southwest Missouri State signee Deven Mitchell (16) and Brandon Argo (13) all scored in double figures for the Chiefs. Kickapoo shot 31 of 51 (60.8 percent) from the field.
They defeated Hillcrest 91-44 Tuesday night in the Ozark conference opener as they had a 22-2 run in the first quarter and a 14-2 run to start the second period to build a 52-13 halftime lead. The Hornets made just four of 18 from the field in the first half. All five starters were in double figures while Kickapoo extended its perfect record to 12-0, 1-0 in conference play. Laurie led the Chiefs in scoring with 18 points and had seven steals and five assists. Mitchell had 17 points, nine rebounds and four steals.
12. Westchester, Los Angeles (15-1)
The Comets had the week off after they defeated Winston-Salem R. J. Reynolds 41-36 to capture fifth place at the Academy National Invitational. The Comets face Fairfax next Tuesday.
13. Los Angeles (CA) Fairfax (13-1)
The Lions defeated Miami Christian 60-50 in the California Hoop Challenge. Junior forward Jamal Boykin scored 18 points and junior Joshua Shipp added 16 points and five assists. Alex Bausley scored 11 points and had eight rebounds for the Lions (13-1). Miami Christian pulled within six points, 56-50, with 1:22 left. However, Shipp hit a 15-foot jumper and Louisiana-Lafayette Kevin Bell made two free throws to secure the victory.
14. Mater Dei, Santa Ana, Calif. (15-2)
The Monarchs lost for the second time this season, falling to Akron (OH) Vincent-St. Mary 64-58 at the Dream classic at Pauley Pavilion. Minnesota signee Wesley Washington led Mater Dei with 18 points and Marcel Jones added 14. Maryland recruit D. J. Strawberry and Washington are leading the team with 13.8 points per game. Harrison Schaen, who is headed to Princeton, is averaging 9.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. They play Fountain Valley Wednesday and Miami Christian at the Nike Extravaganza at the Pyramid in Long Beach
15. Orlando (FL) Edgewater (13-0)
The Eagles had the week off after winning the Hooters Holiday Classic as they defeated Louisville (KY) Male 81-61. They face Apopka Wednesday and Winter Park Friday.
16. Rochester (NY) McQuaid Jesuit (10-0)
McQuaid Jesuit had the week off after they defeated Arlington (VA) Bishop O'Connell 65-57 in the Beach Ball Classic finals. They had played at East last night and at Edison on Friday.
17. Arlington (VA) Bishop O'Connell (12-1)
The Knights beat Wheaton (MD) Good Counsel 56-51 as junior guard Fred Stanbeck scored a team-high 16 points. They played at McNamara last night and Sunday against Paul VI.
18. Detroit (MI) Redford (6-0)
The Huskies defeated Harper Woods Notre Dame 58-49 and Mackenzie 81-48. Michigan recruit Dion Harris had 39 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists. Vernon Carr had 20 points and Ramon Pettus scored 13 in the win over Mackenzie.
19. Rockville (MD) Montrose Christian (7-1)
They had the week off after Linas Kleiza made of 14 shots for 22 points and had eight rebounds to win be named MVP of the A Bracket as Montrose Christian defeat Raleigh (NC) Enloe 60-36 at the Glaxo-Smith-Kline Invitational. They faced Roosevelt Tuesday night and play East Chapel Hill Saturday at Duke Uiversity in the Hoop Group Challenge
20. Minneapolis (MN) North (10-1)
The Polars moved into the top 20 as they defeated College Basketball News' previous #14 high school team Minnetonka (MN) Hopkins. In a game that feature at least six Division I prospects, it was Minneapolis North senior Justyn Burgess, who was the biggest star. The three-year starter scored a game-high 25 points to lead the home team to a 75-66 win. The 6-4 senior forward, who is getting some low Division I and Division II looks, made five three-pointers in this key nonconference game and scored eight points in the final stanza as the Polars (9-1) build on their 57-55 lead. North trailed 30-21 in the second period, but went on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 30-29. They went to halftime with a 37-36 lead. The Polars had excellent balance with four players reaching double figures. Wisconsin signee Kammron Taylor scored 16 points and 7-0 center James Davis added 14. Kevin Henderson had twelve points, including two three-pointers. The Polars are averaging 82.9 points per game and are allowing just 63.3 points per contest. Burgess is leading the team with 16.1 points per game. Taylor is contributing 15.5 points and Davis is averaging 14.0 points per game.
