The Pangos Dream Classic presented by PlyoCity will feature one of the country’s top one-day fields this Saturday at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion. The highlight game will match College Basketball News #1 team Akron (OH) St. Vincent-St. Mary's against #8 Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei. This game will televised live on ESPN2. The Dream Classic will also showcase five other top California teams and one of the East Coast’s top squads.

The Pangos Dream Classic Schedule

3:00pm    Loyola (Los Angeles CA) vs. Mayfair (Lakewood CA)

4:45pm    Centennial (Compton CA) vs. Carson (Carson CA)

6:30pm    Mater Dei (Santa Ana CA) vs. St. Vincent-St. Mary (Akron OH)

8:15pm    Lincoln (Brooklyn NY) vs. Vallejo (Vallejo CA) 

 

Los Angeles Loyola lost in the championship game of the Red Cross-Rotary Roundball Classic to Lilburn (GA) Berkmar 87-79 last weekend. Kansas signee Omar Wilkes led Loyola with 20 points and was named to the All-Tournament team. 6-6 Chris Rucker also made the All-Tournament team. The Cubs have good depth with 6-4 Josh-Flynn Brown, 6-2 Davis Cantor, 6-1 Vincent Oliver and 6-9  sophomore Jordan Wilkes.

 

Mayfair is led by 6-6 Justin Hawkins, who signed with Utah, 6-1 guard Brian McFadden and 6-6 Chris Childress (Mayfair)

 

Compton Centennial lost some talented due to transfers, but still returns 6-4 junior Arron Aflalo. They will face Carson, who is led by Maryland signee 6-9 Ekene Ibekwe and 6-5 sophomore Brian Harvey.

 

Mater Dei was Street & Smith preseason basketball yearbook's #1 high school team. The Monarchs led by 6-3 Wesley Washington, who signed with Minnesota, 6-9 Harrison Schaen (committed to Princeton) and 6-5 D.J. Strawberry (Maryland signee).They also have plenty of depth with 6-6 Marcel Jones, 6-9 Chris Henry (Mater Dei) and 6-0 sophomore point guard Mike Gerrity.

 

Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary is led by LeBron James, who is averaging 26.9 points per game. However, they are not just a one-man team. They also have Akron signees  6-0  Dru Joyce and 6-6  Romeo Travis. Junior guard Cory Jones is a good outside threat.

 

Brooklyn (NY) Abraham Lincoln is led by top junior point guard 6-0 Sebastian Telfair. He gets support from fellow starters Jamal Dart, Stewart Graddick, Dominic Osei and Antonio Pena. The Railsplitters are 11-1 after winning two games at last week’s slam Dunk to the Beach.

 

Vallejo is led by 6-3 junior DeMarcus Nelson, who became the earliest commitment in Duke history.
