St. Louis (MO) Gateway Tech showed that a team is better than one player as they defeated Baton Rouge (LA) Capitol 44-36. Gateway Tech had a balanced attack, while Capitol was led by 6-8 power forward Brandon Bass, who is a likely McDonald’s All-American. He finished with 20 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots in the loss. However, he was one of only four players to score for the Golden Lions.

6-3 junior Cameron Murkey led the Jaguars, who improved to 3-0, with 13 points. LeAndre Jeffries added eight points and Southern Illinois signee Randal Falker finished with seven points and eight caroms.

Brandon Bass, the team's only returning starter from a 2-93 squad, saw the Gateway Tech defenders surround him as Capitol shot just 12 of 43 from the field and two of 15 from three-point range. Bass made only 6 of 17 from the floor. The Golden Lions lost their third straight game to fall to 5-3.
