Ryan Appleby is visiting Florida the following weekend and is being looked at by North
Carolina State, North Carolina, Kentucky, Stanford, Washington, Missouri, New Mexico, Texas and California. He plans to sign in the early signing period. Appleby recently played with a Washington team in Vienna, Austria, which finished 6-0 and became the first American team to win the tourney. He lost five pounds during the European trip.
He is playing in the Nike All-American Camp, the adidas Big Time Tournament and the Best of the Summer in California. His father, Mike, played at Pacific and spent four years with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. His teammate was current New Mexico head coach Ritchie McKay.
Stanwood was 23-4 and finished sixth in the state rankings. He averaged 18 points, four rebounds, ten assists and three steals per game. He shot 52% from the field and 47% from three-point range. Appleby is the lone returning starter for Stanwood this upcoming season.
He modeled his game after Jason Williams and Pete Maravich, which is obvious after watching his game. He is a creative passer with good outside range. Appleby needs to work on his ballhandling and gaining strength to his 160-pound frame. His father told me that members of his family typically do not fill until 21 years old, but that Appleby is hoping to put on a pound a month to get stronger.
He wants to play in an up-tempo offense and hopes to major in business in college.
