Montrose Christian beats Booker T. Washington

Rockville (MD) Montrose Christian used solid backcourt play, despite the loss of Churchill Odia, who is out until January with a high ankle injury to defeat Tulsa (OK) Booker T. Washington 59-40.

Montrose Christian forced nine first half turnovers, compared to just one for themselves and finished with 17 assists compared to just six for Washington. Japanese guard Taishi Ito and K.J. Mzatsui provided a calming influence for the Nustangs. Ito had seven points and six assists and Matsui added seven points. 6-8 junior power forward Uche Echefu led all scorers with 16 pointss. He wowed the crowd with his big-time dunk down the stretch and Montrose head coach Stu Vetter said that all the powers are recruiting him. 6-1 senior guard Antwan Hardy added 14. He has offers from schools like George Mason, Virginia Tech and American. Virginia recruit Tunji Soroye had seven points and ten rebounds.

Cruz Thompson led Booker T. Washington with 15 points. Oklahoma football recruit Quentin Chaney made just three of 12 shots as he finished with nine points. 7-0 sophomore center Shawntell Norman had seven points and three rebounds.
