Ben Gordon was named College Basketball News’
Player of the Week after scoring 77 points in the three wins. He made five of
twelve shots from the field in their season-opening win 70-60 over Yale in the
preseason N.I.T. Gordon made three of seven from three-point range. He finished
with 13 points and six assists.
Gordon made 12 of 20 from the field, all four three-pointers and nine of
twelve from the line in their 93-79 win over Nevada in the preseason N.I.T
second round. He finished with 37 points, four rebounds and three assists.
He concluded the week with 27 points on ten of 13 shooting in a 111-64
non-conference win over sacred Heart. Gordon made all four three-point attempts
for the second straight game. He made three of four from the line.
Gordon made 27 of 45 (60%) shots for the week. He hit 12 of 16 (75%) free
throws and 11 of 15 (73.3%) three-pointers. Gordon had ten rebounds and 13
assists.
Gordon edged out Kevin Martin of Western Carolina, Allen Ray of
Villanova, Tennessee’s Scooter McFadgon and Lawrence Roberts from Mississippi State for the honor.
Martin scored 44 points in a loss to Georgia. He made 14 of 25 shots from
the field, including seven of 14 from beyond the arc. Ray had 58 points in tow
games, including 38 points against Division III University of Redlands. McFadgon
finished with 31 points as he made ten of 15 from the field and three of five
three-pointers in the Volunteers’ opening win over Wofford. Roberts, a transfer
from Baylor, had 26 points in 15 rebounds versus Tennessee-Martin. He made 12 of
17 shots from the field.
