Matt Sargeant of Huntington Beach (CA) High is one of the top scholar-athletes on the West Coast. The 6-1 point guard averaged 20 points, four rebounds and four assists per game last year as the Hawks finished 22-4 and lost in the semifinals.

Matt Sargeant is hearing Stanford, Princeton, Yale, Cal Irvine, Northwestern and Cal Santa Barbara. Sargeant has a 3.5 GPA and scored a 1280 on the SAT. Santa Barbara has offered him and the Ivy schools said that they would welcome him next season. He has visited Stanford unofficially. Sargeant played in the ABCD adidas Camp and the Pangos All-American Camp in July.

Sargeant played for the Huntington Beach Hawks (his high school team) during the Best of the Summer and was with the H squad at most of the events this summer.

Huntington Beach will return two other starters in 6-3 Greg Okwudibonye and 5-9 Troy Lusk.

Sargeant plans to major in English.
