There has been plenty of buzz around Jeremy Lin, who has averaged 25 points and 9.2 rebounds in his past nine games as he has helped lead the Knicks to a 8-1 mark. Lin was not a player that NBA teams did not know about before his recent breakthrough. He played at Harvard and participated in the Portsmouth Invitational, a pre-draft camp held for 64 of the country’s top seniors.
Jeremy Lin
scored 31 points in three the Portsmouth Invitational games, finishing in a three-way tie for 29th in scoring. However, he was not even the best point guard at the P.I.T.
Former
California
guard
Jerome Randle
was named the Portsmouth Invitational MVP after leading his Team (Roger Brown’s to the title. Randle scored 41 points and had a tournament-high 26 assists in three games.
Lin improved his numbers in each of the three games in the Portsmouth Invitational. He was four of nine from the field and had two rebounds and six assists to go along with his eight points in his first game. His team, Tidewater Sealants, lost 114-82
Lin was two of four in his second contest, a 91-83 win. He made all six free throws and finished with ten points and five assists.
Lin had his best game in the finale as he made six of seven shots from the field and was one of two from three-point range. Strangely, he missed all four free throws as he finished with 13 points and seven assists.
Lin went undrafted, but signed with Golden State. He averaged 2.6 points per game as a rookie and had two double figure scoring games.
Lin has made a name for himself in the NBA, which should prompt Randle’s agent to make a call to several of the league’s GMs. Randle played against Lin in the current Knicks’ guard lone NBDL game. Randle has also played in Turkey and Ukraine the past two years.
The play of Lin has made several players who have bounced around wondering if they would be able to shine if they got their chance in the NBA.
